Two different ways of reaching your home

Fibre carries data as light inside glass strands run to the house. The path is dedicated to you from the nearest distribution point, and is unaffected by weather or by how many neighbours are streaming.

5G home plans are usually strongly asymmetric: large download, small upload. That arrangement suits watching video, but becomes the bottleneck as soon as anything sends data.

  • Uploading work files or selling through live streams
  • Automatic cloud backups of photos and documents
  • Security cameras monitored from outside the house

  • Fibre isn't available at your address. The most common reason, and the most legitimate. Internet that exists today beats better internet at some unspecified date.
  • You rent or move often. The device travels with you, and there's no installation to undo.
  • You need it quickly. A temporary office, a fixed-term project, or a newly occupied home.

If you choose 5G, placement decides everything

This is the most overlooked part, yet the difference in results can be several-fold.

  1. Move it near a window facing the nearest tower. Concrete walls attenuate mobile signal just as they attenuate Wi-Fi.
  2. Raise its position. An upper floor almost always beats the ground floor.
  3. Watch the signal figures in the device's panel, not just the bar count. Move the device in small increments and note the change.
  4. Consider an external antenna if signal is weak. This often helps far more than upgrading to a more expensive plan.
