Purpose of this policy

This policy sets out the standards we apply when producing content. We publish it openly so readers can judge the quality and independence of our writing for themselves.

Choosing topics

Topics are chosen on three considerations:

  • Recurring questions. Problems our readers and service clients genuinely run into again and again.
  • Information gaps. Topics where the Indonesian-language explanations available are shallow, inaccurate, or do not fit the local context.
  • Editorial competence. We write in areas we actually understand, and decline to write outside them however promising the traffic looks.

We do not choose topics at an advertiser's request.

Writing and editing process

Research

Gathering primary sources: official vendor documentation, technical standards, and the relevant regulations.

Testing

The technical steps we intend to recommend are tested on the devices and network conditions commonly found in Indonesia.

Writing

The draft is written by someone competent in that area, and states the limits and exceptions.

Editing

An editor checks technical accuracy and clarity, and makes sure no unverifiable claim slips through.

Periodic review

Articles are reviewed again over time. The update date appears on every page.

Use of artificial intelligence

Every guide on this site is written and edited by human editors. We may use assistive tools for spell-checking and outlining, but every factual claim, technical step, and judgement in a piece originates with, and is verified by, our writers and editors.

We do not publish automatically generated content without human review, and we do not mass-produce writing in order to manipulate search rankings.

Separation of editorial and advertising

This is the most important part of our policy.

  • Advertisers have no access to our editorial plans and cannot review a piece before publication.
  • Ad placement does not influence the content, angle, or conclusions of a guide.
  • We do not accept payment for giving a favourable assessment of any product.
  • We do not sell link placements within editorial articles.
  • If we publish sponsored content or use affiliate links, it is labelled clearly and prominently on the page concerned.

We also set up guest networks for small businesses, and that service is not promoted within the body of a guide as the only answer. When a problem can be solved without us, we say so.

Ad placement standards

This site does not yet carry advertising. When it does, we will follow Google's publisher policies and the Better Ads Standards. In practice:

  • No advert covers the content or appears as an intrusive pop-up.
  • No advert is placed where it is easy to click by accident.
  • Every ad unit is clearly labelled.
  • No aggressive automatic ad refreshing.
  • Every slot reserves its space so the layout does not shift as it loads.
  • Adverts are not disguised as editorial content or navigation elements.

Corrections and transparency

Where there is a factual error, we fix it as soon as we can. For material corrections, we add a note of what changed to the article concerned so readers know what was altered.

We do not quietly delete articles to cover up a mistake. If a guide is no longer relevant, we either update it or mark it as archived.

Report an error through the contact page using the topic "Correction or feedback on an article".

Outside contributions

We do not currently accept guest articles, paid link placements, or link exchanges. Requests of that kind are declined without exception.
